Tech stuff - Thinking of going to DSL or CAble? Some ideas & info
Thinking of going to DSL or Cable, or maybe you just did, or mabye you made the jump some time ago, whatever you've done or are about to do you might find the website interesting
http://www.dslreports.com/begin.
Like always it well help you to kept you safer.
Just a note, if you go to Cable which is an "always on" sys. Put a "router" between your Cable modem and your PC. It's a great way to kept out the Bad guys. And even if you use DSL it's still great. Router do more then kept out the bad guys but as far as being safer goes it's nice. The one I have BEFSR41 from Linksys. The main reason for having a router is to have a network (more then one computer connected to each other, like two computers in your home that shares your Internet connection). Ya know
http://linksys.com/edu
will say it better then I. And
http://linksys.com/support/support.asp?spid=1
and the links on this page will tell you more then you may want to know if it's early on for you on the subject but note the User Guide and how ez Linksys has made it for you to understand the "what and why" of it all. Their user guide is the reason I use them.
