FCC Boss Launches Blog Aimed at High-Tech Industry- Reaching out to the people this might not least

By Jeremy Pelofsky

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - U.S. Federal Communications Commission (news - web sites) Chairman Michael Powell has started his own Web log, or blog, to reach out to the high-tech community and bypass the scores of Washington lobbyists who typically skulk around his office.

Powell, who wants to avoid regulating new technologies like Web-based telephone service for fear of stifling innovation, said he started the blog to encourage the high-tech industry to get involved because its past practice of flying under the radar to avoid regulations would no longer work.

Inporting Bookmarks from IE to firefox

Unless you missed it you can during the instill of Firefox inport your bookmarks from IE to firefox. That's fine but what if you've got bookmarks in another browser that you got from your ISP? Well lets says you have and the other browser is from At&T:

It's because you have Bookmarks in both Microsoft IE and Att's browser that I wanted to let you do the inporting and exporting this way.

OK, you want to get her Internet Explorer Favorites into Firefox bookmarks. Firefox normally imports these when you first run it. However, you can also do it after the fact. Start by launching Internet Explorer... And what your real doing is downloading or exporting your Bookmarks from the IE browser to your computer and then uploading or inporting them to firefox. The reasson for all this is because Microsoft puts your Bookmarks in a file that you can't copy or really even get to otherwise.

Click IE's Browser's File menu and select Import and Export....
Export Favorites to the default C:\my documents\bookmark.html
Now close IE and open Firefox

Click Firefox's Bookmarks menu and select Bookmarks Manager
Click File and select Import
Import C:\my documents\bookmark.html
You'll have to do the same for the AT&T browser. And you'll have to have a name ready for the new file that well show up in firefox for those Bookmarks files. It should be show or hold name won't show in firefox toolbar. Something like "IE mark" and "ATT marks"

Good luck and good move!

COVER YOUR TRACKS
Open IE and click on tools, then on "Internet Options", then click on go to the "History" section under the "General" tab, it's should be what you see upon it's opening. Now change the "Days to keep pagesing history" to 0. And click on the "Clear History" botton as well. Now to up to the tabs at the top and click on "Content", in the botton section "Personal information", click on the AutoCmplete botton. Uncheck any of the boxes in the "Use AutoComplete for" section. One more thing to do and your alot safer than you were. In the "Clear AutoComlete heistory" Section click on both the "clear forms" & "Clear Passwords" bottons.
Now all you have to do is NEVER HAVE ANYTHING track or keep track of your Passwords. That and sleep better at night.

Create An Auto-Play CD

The application CDs that you buy launch automatically, and your burned CDs can do the same. They can invoke a setup program or display an HTML page that links to the CD's contents. Use Notepad to create a three-line text file based on the lines below, and name it Autorun.inf. Place the file in the CD's root directory.

[autorun]

open=setup.exe

icon=icon.ico

Replace setup.exe with the program that should launch when the CD is inserted, and replace icon.ico with the file containing the CD's icon. In both cases, be sure to omit the drive letter. If you want to launch a nonexecutable item like an HTML file, precede it with start.exe in the open= line. Note that all file links in the HTML file should be relative ones, omitting the drive letter.

Restore a Lost "Show Desktop" Icon to your "Quick Launch" part of you "Task Bar"

The Show Desktop icon in the Quick Launch toolbar isn't a normal shortcut. If you accidentally delete it you can't recreate it the way you would a shortcut to a program. Instead, launch Notepad and type these lines:

[Shell]
Command=2
IconFile=explorer.exe,3
[Taskbar]
Command=ToggleDesktop

Save the file with the name Show Desktop.scf in the folder C:\Documents and Settings\ username\Application Data\ Microsoft\Internet Explorer\ Quick Launch, where username is replaced by your actual user account name.
